Deacon Arling resides in the metro Denver area. He is married to Marianne and is the father of three adult children. A native of Ohio, he was educated in Cincinnati, graduating with a BA in Philosophy and English from The Athenaeum of Ohio, the Archdiocesan seminary, where he learned his Latin. He earned an MA in English Literature from St. Louis University and is a certified Secondary English and Latin teacher in Missouri.
He has taught in Ohio and Colorado on the college level, including Regis University. He is a retired educator for the State of Colorado, having taught high school English for eleven years in youth correctional facilities. He has also worked as a journalist and advertising manager for the Diocese of Pueblo newspaper.
He was ordained as a deacon in 2017 for the Archdiocese of Denver. Assigned to his home parish in Broomfield, he has a special ministry to those in jails and prisons. He enjoys films, sci-fi, thrillers, Chesterton, American history, and travel, especially pilgrimages. His favorite city is “the Eternal City,” Rome.
